The Teaching Assistant (TA) application period for Winter 2010 is CLOSED. All TA positions are filled for winter quarter.
Applications from UCSD graduate students for Spring 2010, will be accepted starting January 19, 2010 until February 8, 2010. Click the PDF at the end of this message for the TA application prompt. The deadline for applications is February 8th, 2010. Late and incomplete applications will not be considered. Employment as a TA is based on available funding, the need for TAs to teach section(s), & vacant positions. Current TAs must reapply for their position each quarter.
Top candidates are native Mandarin Chinese speakers, who can read & write clearly in both Traditional & Simplified characters. Experience as a language teacher is a requirement. TAs are hired as supplemental teachers of Chinese to students of various backgrounds & abilities. TAs must be available to work on Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays, attending & leading the assigned section(s) and various other TA tasks without reservation. TAs schedule must have a flexible schedule to potentially attend corresponding lectures on Tuesdays & Thursdays. Attendance to initial, weekly & wrap-up meetings are mandatory. Missing meetings are grounds for dismissal.
The Selection Committee will be reviewing dozens of competitive applications, to enhance your chances of being selected, you will need to submit complete, clear, impressive & accurate application materials on or before February 8th, 2010. Do not call or send e-mail inquiries regarding the status of your application. Applicants will be sent results via e-mail by Feb. 28th.
All applications materials must be submitted in printed format and should include a 3 minute voice recording on a CD. Make sure that the CD recording works on a PC (computer) and that it best highlights your pronunciation skills in Mandarin Chinese. Boldly write your name in permanent marker on you CD. This office will not print & put together your application materials for you, nor will electronic voice recording sent via e-mail be reviewed. Carefully read & follow the instructions on the application prompt and this webpage.
