Chinese Summer Intensive Language Program: Monterey, California

Make significant progress in Chinese this summer and earn up to year of language credit for transfer!

National Chengchi University in Taiwan

National Chengchi University (NCCU) in Taiwan, is extending our International Summer School (ISS) program to interested students and universities. This summer, NCCU is offering twelve courses in Humanities, Social Sciences, Business, and International Relations, all taught by renowned and experienced professors. Courses are taught in English. Provision of traditional Mandarin Chinese language classes are also arranged for those interested candidates. Extra-curricular activities are also offered such as excursions to historical sites, day trips to art and culture shows, etc., as to expose students the essence of Taiwan.

NCCU is also offering one (1) selected candidate scholarship, which covers course fee and free excursions. We, at NCCU, are inviting interested students to join our ISS program this summer. This would be a great opportunity for them!

UC Davis: Summer Abroad 2017 in Asia

2017 Total Immersion Programme (PRINCH) in Yantai, China & Summer in Hong Kong

Summer is a special season for short term study abroad in Hong Kong; to learn Chinese language (Putonghua and Cantonese) with our professional teaching team; to stay on an international campus which combines tradition with modernity and to bring together China and the West; to experience a vibrant Chinese city without sacrificing the comforts of home.   • There is an intensive 13 day PRINCH  program in Yantai, a non-touristy coastal city of Shandong Province. PRINCH embraces the concept of “use to learn” and emphasizes the contextual use of a language. Intermediate and advanced Putonghua learners in Chinese as a foreign/ second language are most welcome to this 13-day programme held in 16 to 28 May 2017. Deadline of application in mid-March.
  • Summer 11 weeks regular programmes: daily lesson from 5 June to 11 August. All levels of Putonghua and Cantonese are available. The 4 language functions of listening, speaking, reading and writing are taught with emphasis on speaking. Non-beginners will be invited for a placement test online.   • 6 weeks Foundation Certificate Programmes: held from 5 July to 11 August, the 80-hour short programme offers a choice between Elementary Cantonese and Putonghua. Upon completion of this programme, students are expected to handle basic Chinese daily expression (oral and listening) and use Chinese to solve daily problems in a limited way.   • CUHK International Summer School: this is the official summer programmes of CUHK with a significant student population from exchange students worldwide. Chinese language courses are offered as July Session (5 weeks during 27 June to 28 July) and August Session (3 weeks during 4 to 25 August). Fee-paying students are welcome. Shih Chien University Chinese Language Center

Consider the opportunity to study at Shih Chin University Chinese Language Center in Taipei Dazhi. The center is praised by its students for its unceasing dedication in offering a practical and diverse curriculum. They are committed to strengthening students’, listening, speaking, reading, and writing abilities, while also raising their interest in learning Chinese. Class size is limited to 6-8 students for the most effective learning environment. English-in-Action Opportunity at UCSD

The UCSD International Students & Programs Office's (ISPO) English conversation tutor program, English-in-Action is looking for volunteers who will enjoy meeting with international undergrad & grad students, visiting research scholars, spouses, and postdocs on a weekly basis to assist them in improving their English language skills and to share our American culture. Over 50% of the EIA applicants are from China!

The English-in-Action Program (EIA) recruits tutors from all walks of life and matches them with international visitors to our campus. No knowledge of foreign languages or teaching experience is required.  EIA tutors attend an orientation session and have access to the materials and resources of the International Center.

International Studies Abroad

International Studies Abroad is a UCSD affiliated program abroad that recently added an educational opportunity at East China Normal University beginning fall 2010. Many of these courses are compatible with UCSD requirements and this program abroad options are inexpensive. There is a 2.5 GPA minimum requirement but no language requirement. Global China Connection at UCSD? Not yet but YOU can make it happen Global China Connection is the world's largest student-run non-profit organization that connects young leaders from China and the world. Alliance for Global Education

Also known as AGE, The U.S. State Department has awarded two full scholarships to AGE for Summer 2010 to be used to study in Beijing or Shanghai, China. In addition The Alliance for Global Education has built a strong relationship with the UCSD Programs Abroad Office offering numerous programs that support students in language acquisition and cultural immersion. 

AGE is offering full scholarship opportunity for students to undertake intensive Chinese language study during the Summer 2010. The Critical Languages Scholarship (CLS) is part of a U.S. government interagency effort to expand the number of Americans studying and mastering critical need foreign languages. During an 8-week program students will take either intermediate or advanced level course at Alliance in Beijing (Beijing Language and Culture University) or Shanghai (Fudan University). All program fees, round-trip air travel, meals, activities and excursions will be covered by the scholarship. CLS is offering 80 full scholarships are available for China, and the Alliance will host at least half of the scholars.

Info about the CLS program is available online. The application deadline for the CLS is December 18, 2009, but other opportunities may still be available.
