Chinese Language
All students must participate in a Chinese Language Placement Interview and be approved by an instructor prior to enrolling in any CHIN course.
Chinese Studies is focused around an intensive language acquisition sequence designed to cater to students of varying backgrounds with Mandarin Chinese. In order for the Chinese Studies program to best determine which class a student should take, all students must take a placement interview with a Chinese Language faculty member before enrolling.
Once the placement test is complete and the student has been authorized for a Chinese language course, students are able to enroll in any available tutorial for their Chinese language course, and attend the lecture that best fits their schedule.
CHIN courses are designed for students to learn how to speak, read and write Mandarin Chinese. If Chinese is a student's first language he or she will not benefit from the Chinese courses offered by the Chinese language program. These CHIN courses are not for native or near native speakers of Chinese, but other options are available for those students.
